Everpure brings a shared storage layer to VMs and containers on Azure Red Hat OpenShift

The integration targets teams moving virtual machines onto OpenShift Virtualization without creating a separate storage and operations silo.

Shared storage for VMs and containers on Azure Red Hat OpenShift.
Side by side: what changed

Red Hat says Everpure Cloud is now available on Microsoft Azure Red Hat OpenShift (ARO), adding a storage option designed to serve virtual machines and containerized applications from the same managed OpenShift environment. The announcement puts the emphasis on migration: teams can bring existing VMs onto OpenShift Virtualization while continuing to build cloud-native applications on the platform.

What is available

The integration combines ARO, OpenShift Virtualization and Everpure's data services. In Red Hat's announcement, the companies position it as an alternative to running separate infrastructure and management stacks for legacy VMs and newer container workloads.

Everpure also publishes deployment documentation for its Azure-native service on ARO. That matters more than the broad modernization language: this is presented as an available integration with an implementation path, not merely a roadmap item.

Red Hat says VM workloads can be migrated into Azure without rewriting application code and then operated alongside microservices on ARO. The post also says administrators can manage containers, VMs and storage through the Azure portal, while the managed OpenShift service retains joint Microsoft and Red Hat support.

Why platform teams may care

The practical question for platform teams is whether a VM migration creates another operational island. ARO already supplies the managed application platform, while OpenShift Virtualization supplies the common control plane for VMs and containers. Everpure is proposing a corresponding common data layer, including thin provisioning, data reduction, immutable snapshots and automated disaster recovery.

Everpure claims the service can reduce cloud-storage costs by as much as 40% through thin provisioning and data reduction. That figure is a vendor target, not an independently verified result; teams should validate it against their own capacity, data-reduction ratios and Azure pricing commitments before building a business case.

The more durable significance is architectural. Organizations do not have to finish an application rewrite before consolidating operations: a VM can move first, remain a VM, and share the OpenShift and storage environment with applications that are already containerized. That creates a staged route away from a standalone hypervisor estate rather than forcing infrastructure migration and application modernization into one project.

What to evaluate

Prospective users should test workload compatibility, failure-domain design, recovery objectives and storage performance before production adoption. They should also compare the two operating models linked by Red Hat—Everpure Cloud Dedicated for Azure and the Azure-native service for ARO—and confirm how each model affects support boundaries, consumption commitments and day-two operations.

The integration is available now, according to Red Hat. Its value will depend less on the headline promise of unified operations than on whether it simplifies the specific VM portfolio a team plans to move.
